You all may remember back in January my post about the nurses in my life that I would love to thank. It was all a part of the wonderful Pampers Swaddlers Thank You Nurses Awards program. Pampers asked people to nominate a deserving NICU, Labor and Delivery or Postpartum nurse for this honor.
Pampers received more than 3,000 submissions to the Thank You Nurses Awards! The nominations were heartwarming, beautiful, and inspiring. It was a difficult decision, but the panel has chosen a winner for each of the three categories: Laurie Milliken (Labor & Delivery), Elizabeth Giambrone (NICU), and Billie Warren (Postpartum).
In order to celebrate these winners as well as celebrate nurses every where for Nurses Appreciation Week from May 6th-12th, I was given the amazing opportunity to give back to nurses in my own community. I reached out to the director of the Mother/Baby Unit (postpartum) where we live. She told me that there were currently 97 nurses on staff in that department. They all work very hard, in fact, one of the nurses was commenting on just how many lives they touch. She broke it down by days, weeks and years.
“I was thinking about the impact we make on so many different lives. If you break it down by the day, we see on average 3-5 moms and babies a day and work 3 shifts. That would be 15 lives a week that we’ve touched. When you break that down over the 10 years that I have worked that would be about 6,000 lives!”
The entire conversation was very heartwarming to take a look into what makes these nurses tick and come back day after day and night after night…it’s the patients and newborn babies! So, I asked the director what she thought would be a nice treat for the nurses. After speaking with them all, it seems that morale is a little low for a lot of different reasons. One of the “bummers” is the fact that they all have to wear white uniforms now. They get everything on them and feel, well, not clean! So, they really were hoping for Tide to Go pens in order to keep the stains at bay while they work.
So, I set out on a mission to purchase enough Tide to Go pens for each nurse as well as a few other goodies that I know they were hoping for. Snacks, lip balm and even coffee are some go-to items for nurses. I really wanted to make this a special event for so many that give back to others all day long.

On this very special week, Nurses Appreciation Week, what small act could you do for a nurse who made a huge difference in your and your little one’s life? It may be just as simple as a hug and a thank you!
This post is part of my partnership with Pampers and I received compensation for this post. I have loved this company from day one and am proud of the relationship I have with them.
